Trees icon.png Trees put the timber in Timberborn. They are vital, naturally-spawning resources. They are usually found clustered in stands. They provide colonies with Log icon.png Logs for construction and production. They also provide Materials icon.png Materials (Pine Resin icon.png Pine Resin), Ingredients icon.png Ingredients (Maple Syrup icon.png Maple Syrup and Chestnut icon.png Chestnuts), and Food icon.png Food (Mangrove Fruit icon.png Mangrove Fruits).

Usage

They are:

Lifecycle

Each tree type has three states: seedling, mature and stump. Seedlings mature over time. When mature, trees Mark tree cutting area icon.png marked for cutting can be felled for Logs by Workers icon.png lumberjacks working at Lumberjack Flag icon.png Lumberjack Flags within range. This produces stumps. Stumps can be removed by Builders' Hut icon.png builders or directly built on as if they weren't there. A quick way to remove multiple stumps is to build Path icon.png Paths or Dynamite icon.png Dynamite over them and then delete the temporary constructions.

When mature, applicable trees begin to produce their harvestable resources. Mature but dead trees can still be harvested for Logs.

Production Rates

There are six types of trees: Birch, Pine, Maple, Chestnut, Mangrove Tree, and Oak. The three Factions icon.png Faction-specific types marked in the table.

Propagation

There are two methods for obtaining more trees.

The first is natural spreading. Farms relying on this process are slow and usually unnecessary, but are the only option until the Forester icon.png Forester is available.

The second method involves planting seedlings using Forester icon.png Foresters. Like Workers icon.png farmers, Workers icon.png reforesters plant seedlings on blocks Plant trees and bushes icon.png designated for a specific tree. Trees marked for planting do not undergo natural spreading. They depend entirely on reforesters for planting, Workers icon.png Lumberjacks for felling, and Workers icon.png gatherers for harvesting. The only way to get Factions icon.png Faction-specific trees is to plant them with Foresters.

Strategies

Birch is best for initial tree planting as it has the quickest maturation.

Oak is the most efficient as it has the best yield for maturation time (Logs / day in the Production Rates table above).

Growing trees for their resources

Tree-based food is slow to produce. However, the only way Iron Teeth icon.png Iron Teeth can make waterways productive is by growing Mangrove trees.

  1. Place a Forester icon.png Forester
  2. Plant trees and bushes icon.png Mark the area for planting.
  3. Ensure this area is NOT Cut trees icon.png marked for tree cutting.
  4. Construct an appropriate gatherer Buildings icon.png Building within range. The range is indicated by the outlined area when placing the Building. As the Building harvests all suitable resources from within its range, there is no need to mark the area for gathering like you must with tree cutting.
  5. For added efficiency: construct a:
    • Small Warehouse icon.png Small Warehouse near Gatherer Flags set to the appropriate resource and Supply; and
    • Small Tank icon.png Small Tank near Tapper's Shacks set to the appropriate resource and Supply.
  6. After all trees are planted, you can:
  7. Ensure the gatherers remain staffed. Sit back and wait for the resources to come flowing in.

History

  • Update 7: Lowered Birch growth time to 7 days. (was: 9 days)
