Districts are subdivisions of Beavers icon.png Beaver colonies. They extend from District Center icon.png District Centers along connected Path icon.png Paths in all directions until they reach District Crossing icon.png District Crossings. Districts are:

  • a District Center,
  • all Paths connected to the District Center, and
  • the structures connected to those Paths.

Construction sites, Rubble icon.png Rubble, Crops icon.png Crops, Trees icon.png Trees, Blueberry (Bush) icon.png Bushes and structures without doors do not belong to any District, because they aren't connected with a Path. This includes most Power icon.png Power buildings.

Builders' Hut icon.png Builders go up to 10 blocks from a Path to do their jobs. Gatherers, lumberjacks, tappers, and scavengers operate within the range of their Buildings. The work ranges for Buildings that have them ignore Paths.

Path Networks

Districts have a path network, originating from the District Center and including all connected Paths. District path networks cannot cross each other, requiring a District Crossing to separate them.

When selecting District Centers, path lines extend to indicate the extent of the boundary. As the line continues, it slowly changes color from green to red. Fully red indicates it is 70 or more blocks away.

Establishing New Districts

To establish new Districts, new District Centers must be built. This requires neither construction materials nor Builders. The planned expansion must be segregated from any existing Districts before building the District Center. Either use District Crossings or remove a section of Path. Migrating beavers and bots do not require a path to relocate. They travel straight to the new District.

Resource Division

Each District has its own Population, Well-Being icon.png Well-Being and Resource pool. Needs satisfied in one District do not satisfy Needs in other Districts. Similarly, available resources in one District are not usable by another. Workers do not cross District Crossings to work but can be Migrated using the Manage settlement panel for Migration. This panel is additionally accessed from District Centers. Resources can be shared between Districts by employing workers at District Crossings (maximum 10 on each side) to haul Goods to and from the crossing.

You can also build Storage icon.png Storage near the path networks of two Districts. Connect the Storage to one path network to fill it, then disconnect it and reconnect it to the second path network to use it.

Strategies

When more than a few Workplaces are near each other in the red path line zone, start a new District there to improve efficiency.

History

Update 6: District paths can extend infinitely instead of stopping soon after turning red.
