Strategy

Gristmills are the only Power icon.png powered food building of the Folktails faction, however both the Grill icon.png Grill and the Bakery icon.png Bakery transmit power so you can avoid complicated use of Power Shaft icon.png Power Shafts in your food processing districts.

Gristmill processes Wheat icon.png Wheat and Cattail Root icon.png Cattail Root into Wheat Flour icon.png Wheat Flour and Cattail Flour icon.png Cattail Flour respectively.
These flours are Ingredients icon.png Ingredients, they require further transformation in the Bakery icon.png Bakery, so these buildings should be built close to one another.

Trivia

  • Gristmills date back over 2,000 years, with early versions powered by hand or animals before water and wind power became common.
  • The word “grist” refers to grain that is brought to a mill to be ground.
  • Traditional gristmills use two large stones: the bedstone (stationary) and the runner stone (rotates above it). Grooves carved into the stones (called furrows) help cut the grain while the flat areas crush it.
